    Ashley’s Learning to Open Up

    ByAmanda Putnam December 22, 2025May 7, 2026

My story hasn’t been easy. Years ago, when I was a manager at a quick-service restaurant, I was working every hour I could to provide for my kids. While I was at work, a family member made a mistake that caused DSS to step in and take my kids away for almost six months. It…

Jay’s Story of learning patience and peace here at the Iron & Oil Men’s Recovery Program

    ByWestern Carolina Rescue Ministries October 16, 2025May 7, 2026

Some of my earliest memories are filled with fear. My mom’s boyfriend at the time was violent. He would beat me and sometimes throw me into closets. I don’t know if he was taking his anger out on me instead of beating my mother and sister, but an experience like that is difficult to overcome….

Right Place, Right Time, Right Now!

    ByMicheal Woods August 18, 2025May 7, 2026

Micheal Woods, Executive Director You may not realize it yet, but here, right now, this is your moment. Not yesterday, not someday. Now. Too many of us believe we’ve missed our time. We mistakenly believe that we’ve made too many mistakes or gone too far. But right now, can be your time. You are not…

    This Time It’s My Time

    ByWestern Carolina Rescue Ministries August 18, 2025August 25, 2025

By Chris (Men’s Recovery Program Resident) This is not my first time in the Recovery Program at Western Carolina Rescue Ministries. I left the program the first time because of a relationship. At the time, I thought it was the right thing to do, but looking back, it just pulled me off course.  The relationship…

“Made for Better” Micheal Woods, Executive Director

    ByMicheal Woods June 11, 2025August 25, 2025

So often life hands us challenges we never asked for — losses, disappointments, and setbacks that leave us wondering why things turned out the way they did. And in all honesty, we sometimes ask if God really cares. But when we hit those tough moments, we have an important choice to make: will we let…

    Erica Found Strength in God

    ByWestern Carolina Rescue Ministries June 11, 2025June 13, 2025

When I arrived at Abba’s House six months ago, I had just one week clean. I’d left my apartment and everything I owned to come here with the hope of reuniting with my seven-year-old son. My family dropped me off and wished me the best. I had no Department of Social Services case, just a…

“A Vision to See and Believe.”

    ByMicheal Woods May 13, 2025August 25, 2025

by Micheal Woods (September/October 2023 Newsletter) I’ve been thinking lately about a passage in the Bible that talks about God’s graciousness to Abram. This has been on my heart because I am convinced it contains a principle that a lot of people find hard to accept.  In the account found in Genesis 13, Abram (later…

    “Waiting Well”

    ByMicheal Woods April 22, 2025April 22, 2025

In our fast-paced world, we expect immediate results. We want instant answers to our prayers. But what happens when God’s timeline doesn’t match our own? What do we do when God seems to be taking too long? There’s a profound truth we must understand: God’s time is always perfect, but it doesn’t always feel good….

    Deja’s Story of Hope

    ByWestern Carolina Rescue Ministries April 22, 2025April 22, 2025

My journey with drugs began early. Before I was even four years old, my parents were dealing drugs, and my brother and I were placed in foster care for six years. When my dad went to prison, it seemed like things couldn’t get harder. Growing up, I was actually the one who was against drugs….
